Social media for writers – links and other
helpful information Facebook If you’re not a member and want to join, go to www.facebook.com to register. While there, look up your favorite writers. Chances are they will have a page. For example, Michael
Connelly and John Scalzi are among my “Facebook Friends”. Twitter www.twitter.com to join. Once you’re a member, go to “Find People” , then “Browse Suggestions”,
then choose “Books”.
Writers On Twitter you can “follow” other writers (during my talk I gave examples of Joe Hill and Susan Orlean
as two well known writers you can connect with. That doesn’t necessarily mean they will follow you. In fact, chances
are you will only be able to follow them, not respond to their “Tweets”. Agents Besides
writers, you can also follow literary agents. I follow Rachelle Gardner and “CincindyPat” . Unlike writers or
other famous people, literary agents will likely follow you if you call yourself a writer in your bio.
Publishers, Writing Groups, Book Stores, etc. Also on Twitter, you can follow organizations of specific
interest to writers, such as: Writers Digest, Publishers Weekly, Penguin Books, Little Brown Publishing, Borders, and many
well known independent book stores, such as Politics and Prose in DC, Vromans in California and Powells in Oregon. LinkedIn www.linkedin.com John sent out an informative message after my presentation. Worth reading. Mashable www.mashable.com A new social media site I discovered after my presentation. They are a great resource if you want to take social
media to the next level. Once you get comfortable with Twitter, check out “tlists-writing” -
you can put this on your twitter page and it will connect you with all kinds of writers who are spewing off about whatever
their muse wants. Mashable has much more to offer, but I’m still finding my way through their site.
